A Home Based Business Opportunity in Network Marketing Still Has Glitter

Searching for an alternative career in an economy that has recently idled millions of workers has many people looking in the broad area of the home based business opportunity of network marketing. Network marketing using the internet has given a new prestige to multi level marketing.

Those of us who are familiar with the old, conventional model of the MLM business where you contact your local “warm” market of friends and family to get started has been updated by the newer, internet-based strategies of contacting prospects for your business using online methods.

Successful MLM businesses can be launched today without reliance on your local network of acquaintances. The enhanced ability to contact prospective and interested customers and/or partners among a world-wide web audience of home business opportunity seekers has raised the possibilities for success for anyone considering getting involved in this industry.

A home based business opportunity in network marketing has never experienced a better time for potential explosive growth than right now. If you have already been impacted by the massive job lay-offs and idling of the workforce, and feel the pinch of joblessness or partial employment; well, you are not alone…

There is a virtual army of idled white collar workers who have been displaced in the current economic maelstrom. Job security and career certainty has become a thing of the past for many. No wonder thousands are searching the internet for a home based business opportunity. Network marketing has its place when filling the job-loss gap.

Examine Your Resource Base…

A word of caution however is advisable to the newly-minted, career-seeker in the home based business arena. Working any kind of legitimate business opportunity takes adequate resources and some initial capital investment – no matter what anybody tells you.

You will hear from those who want to steer you into their own network marketing program that if you don’t have much money to invest you can at-least invest your time. Well that’s true up to a point. Remember, we all only have so much time and you’ll want to spend your time wisely too.

Today’s savvy home based business person leverages their time by using modern technology to extend their reach and influence in the marketplace. Having sufficient tools and resources to sustain your home business launch is a requirement. Only you (in consultation with your mentor), can correctly gauge the level of commitment you can afford when starting out in a new home based business opportunity, whether it’s network marketing or any other type of home business.

As with any business, you’ll need a modicum of income to support the ongoing needs for marketing and promoting your fledgling start-up. Most successful network marketers have built their home based business careers in parallel with working another job or have some other fixed way to finance their part-time career as an online network marketer.

If you’re really strapped for cash, the home based business opportunity in network marketing may suffer for lack of the necessary funds to really put yourself in the proper position for impressing others to join your program and/or learn about your products.

Realize too, that in many respects you are opening a virtual “store”. Most network marketing programs require a commitment of buying a batch of product monthly to remain an active distributor. It’s usually an estimated $100 monthly which isn’t much, but it does represent an additional outlay of monthly expenses to your household budget.

To put things in proper perspective, most start-ups for a part-time home business opportunity are financed on a credit card. Initially, most any kind of home business will normally require you to spend more money than it will return immediately.

But considering the relatively low investment cost, the risks can usually be borne by those with some existing assets, or savings already padding their financial situation. Compared with many other business opportunities, unless you have a lot to invest, network marketing (along with affiliate marketing) remains the most viable option for owning your own business.

The upside of course is the main attractor; it still remains true that more millionaires are created (not only in the U.S.A. but world-wide), in the home based business opportunity of network marketing than any other enterprise.

Surviving and Thriving With a Home Based Business

Thanks to the power of the internet, the dream of working from home either on a part-time or full-time basis is more accessible than ever. However, while home-based options are certainly lucrative, they are not necessarily guarantees for success. Home-based businesses do carry some risk of failure, which is why some people may be hesitant to start such a task. However, with the right knowledge, anyone can make a home-based business thrive.

Understand the Product

The majority of modern home-based businesses relate to sales or marketing of some kind. Whether it is a multilevel marketing opportunity or another type of network marketing situation, these home-based businesses rely on buying into a system and then turning that system around to others. Each opportunity will be somewhat different, with its own perks and nuances. Before deciding to join up with any such home-based opportunity, it is essential to understand what product is being offered. This may seem obvious, but since so many of these opportunities involve virtual products, entrepreneurs must put extra effort into completely comprehending what their business entails.

Self-Empowerment

People who earn money from home have to be prepared to motivate and educate themselves. This is why understanding the product is so critical to a successful home-based business. First of all, it is important to know that the opportunity is actually legitimate. Unfortunately, along with the numerous quality home-based business opportunities, there are also a smattering of scams. In order to avoid these scams, some research is in order. Reading up on the company’s policies and checking out testimonials regarding the company from third party reviewers should dispel any concerns regarding legitimacy.

In addition to making sure the home-based business is a viable option, the better one understands how the business model works, the better prepared one can be to meet the challenges. It is important to know how much work is required, the hours most people put into it, and what kind of profit can be realistically expected. In this way, understanding the product being offered and the system by which it is offered is an important step of self-empowerment while pursuing a home-based business.

Reaching Clients

Understanding the product is also critical to being an effective salesperson. After all, it is difficult to sell a product that one does not totally understand and believe in. The better grasp one has on the product, the easier it is to effectively set up a marketing program. This allows individuals to focus on the best characteristics and know how to appeal efficiently to prospective buyers. Additionally, a high level understanding is important during follow up conversations with clients. While many people can make an effective opening pitch, the real sales work comes through ongoing discussions with clients. Sellers must know their product inside and out in order to answer all questions that clients may have. Strong, consistent responses to questions can be an essential difference between making a sale and losing a customer.

Growing Success

Thoroughly understanding the process and product of a home-based business will take some time and effort. However, the investment will reap real dividends for serious entrepreneurs. The more one knows, the more one can sell, and in this way, anyone can take a home-based business opportunity and grow it into a successful and satisfying business venture.

Five Simple Steps to Jump Start Your Home Based Business

Have you invested in a home based business and been left wondering “now what?”

Starting your own work at home business is an exciting thing to do and can also be intimidating because after the initial excitement wears off many people are left without qualified support and end up quitting before they ever get started.

This article will provide you with five simple steps to jump start your home based business and start making money from home.

Step 1 – How much time are you willing to invest in your home based business?

Take an honest look at your daily schedule and determine how much time you could devote to your business every day. Once you determine the amount of time you can devote to it every day decide on the hours per day that you will be working on your business and don’t let anyone pull you away from your schedule.

Step 2 – Set a budget

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when investing in a home based business is putting all of their expenses on credit cards. This is a huge mistake because by using credit cards you’re going to end up paying double or triple for small, simple expenses.

Every business has expenses from purchasing office supplies, computer supplies and paying bills. It’s important that you be prepared for these expenses and not end up borrowing money or using credit cards to pay for them.

How much money could you save for your business expenses every month by cutting junk food, fast food or other wasteful things out of your monthly budget?

Step 3 – How will you sell your products and services?

You should start by asking yourself ‘who do I know?’ and then create a list of friends and family members that would be interested in learning more about your business. This is an important step because for starters it’s a great way to get you talking about your business and if you make a sale from talking to friends or family members you didn’t have to spend any money to get it.

After talking with your friends and family members you should consider branching out and advertising your products or services through print and online media.

You could start advertising in your local area by placing small classified advertisements to promote your products or services. I would recommend advertising in small local publications like the Penny Saver or other free weekly publications.

If you decide to advertise online your first step should be creating a website to promote your business and then advertising that site through pay per click advertising (PPC), online classified ads, blogs, forums, e-newsletters, banner advertisements and even article marketing. There are many online advertising resources that you can begin using for little to no money.

Step 4 – Write a business plan

Many people that invest in home based businesses don’t think about writing a business plan because they don’t either take their home business serious enough or view it as actual work.

If you write a business plan and clearly define what your home business is, how you’re going to run your business and what the goals for your home based business are you will have a clear direction and a “road map” that you can go back to time and again if you find yourself getting sidetracked or losing the motivation to keep going.

Step 5 – Stay healthy

Staying healthy is important especially when running your own home based business because home business owners often neglect their health and let themselves become run down due to the long hours that they work, lack of sleep, poor diet and lack of exercise.

What’s your diet like every day? How much water do you drink? How much exercise do you get? These are important questions to ask because good health is an important building block in building a successful home based business.

5 Secrets to Starting a Successful Home Based Business

Welcome to your financial independence and freedom. I worked for many years as a slave to my job. I was one of almost 1,000 lawyers in an international law firm. The day I made the transition to have a home based business was a turning point in my life. Today, I exclusively work from home. I work a fraction of the time I used to work. I am much happier and much more financially free. I would like to share with you a few secrets to help you become successful in your home based business.

Many people who decide to start a home based business are still working full or part time for their other “job.” You can still succeed and ultimately transition to exclusively working just your home based business if done correctly. Others are ready to focus on their new home based business full time. Either way, there are some secrets to setting up your home based business so that it will be successful and financially rewarding from the get-go.

Secret #1: Organize Your Office

Organization and success are directly linked. Make sure to select a room in your home specifically designated to your home based business. Setting up a work zone will minimize distractions and establish a boundary for those who know you work from home and feel they can stop by or call you in the middle of the day for personal issues. I also recommend having a separate phone line designated to your business calls and one for your fax machine. It is not costly to set up an additional line or two and it is all deductible as a business expense. You should also start a filing system right away. Letting stacks of paper accumulate and postponing a good organizational filing system will hinder your success. If done correctly and from the very beginning, you can avoid needing to hire a file person or secretary until your businesses growth demands it and can afford it.

Secret #2: Get a Website or Internet Presence

Selecting a home based business that has an Internet focus or presence is important in today’s market place. Purchase a domain name and set up your website right away. Web and Internet based home based businesses are the new trend in business. In order to capitalize on this movement and on a very lucrative sector, it is a good idea to have a business or product that can be marketed with a website and on-line. This allows your client base or customers to learn about you and find you easily. It also expands your client base beyond your local market. Gone are the days of opening the Yellow Pages. Most everyone finds what they are looking for today by searching on the Internet. According to Forrester Research, ecommerce will be a $329 Billion industry by 2010. Seize on it with an on-line home based business!

Secret #3: Make a Schedule

The great thing about a home based business is that you do not have to work any set hours or days. However, you should make a schedule of both when you plan to work and what you plan to accomplish in that time frame. Task lists and to do lists are a signature of those with successful home based businesses. Having structure and a schedule helps you to be disciplined. It also teaches others to respect your work time. Creating a somewhat predictable work schedule will go a long way towards your success.

Secret #4: Have a Calendar, But Just One

One of the best things about working from home is the flexibility to break to attend your child’s school play or sports event or take the day off to golf. It is best to merge your personal and business calendar with a home based business so that you do not double book and to keep things simple. No need to check more than one calendar especially now that you don’t have a boss who you need to appear to be working for. Initially, I tried keeping one calendar for my legal events (court dates, depositions, etc.) and one for my personal life. It resulted in a few instances of double booking and the headache and waste of time involved in having to consult and fill in two calendars.

Secret #5: Get Help When You Need It

Part of the beauty of working from home is having the flexibility to work when you want. If you get into the habit of working all the time and assuming all the tasks on your own, you will have defeated that purpose. Thus, consider outsourcing much of your work, projects, and errands (bill paying, appointment making, etc). I learned this best from Timothy Ferriss in his book The Four Hour Work Week. Pick up a copy from a local book store or your library. I recommend the CD version so you can listen while you exercise or drive in the car. He is very funny and ever so practical. He will give you great tips on hiring good, inexpensive help in India and other over-seas places. Also, learn to say no. When your plate is full, you are not doing anyone any favors by accepting more work. This is true even if you are being asked to be the room mom, coach your son’s soccer team, chair a community event, or take on another project you can’t possibly take on. Know how much you can handle and learn to say no. If you can only fit ten tasks on your plate and you take on eleven, one will slip. Avoid that from the outset.

5 Benefits of Working From Home and Having a Home Based Business

The trend to home based businesses is really exploding. And, with good reason. The flexibility and profitability of working from home is tremendous. Besides for the fact that you can get up when you want and wear what you want, there are many other advantages to working from home and having a home based business.

Benefit #1: Increased Productivity

Working from home allows you to have more time. More time for work, or hobbies, or your family. It eliminates the commute to work. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the national average drive-time is 24.3 minutes. Americans spend over 100 hours a year commuting. Working from home not only eliminates the time spent commuting, it also eliminates time in the office spent socializing or leaving to get lunch. This time gained results in more productive hours and few hours spent “working.” Working from home also gives you the freedom to take a break to exercise or do something around the house. You’re home when packages arrive to sign for them. You’re home when the repair man comes and will only give you a four hour window. You are also more available to clients who need to reach you in the evening and on the weekends with a home based business. And, best of all, you’re home for your kids and pets when they need you. According to USA Today, people who work from form report having fewer sick days, improved morale, and improved productivity.

Benefit #2: Tax Savings

Working from home means a home office. A home office means deductible business related expenses such as Internet, phone, office space, subscriptions, and insurance. The IRS allows you to deduct a percent of your mortgage or rent payment, depreciation, property taxes, insurance, and utilities. The percent you may deduct is calculated by the number of rooms or square foot of your home you use for your business. For example, if you use one room of a four bedroom house for your home based business, you can deduct 25% of the homes’ operating expenses. However, this space must be designated specifically for your business on an on-going basis. According to the IRS, in order to deduct something as a business expense the “business expense must be ordinary in your business and necessary for operation.” Ordinary just means an expense that is accepted and common in your business. Necessary means those that are helpful and appropriate to maintain your business. The IRS requires you to separate your personal and business expenses and then only the business expenses can be deducted.

Benefit #3: Flexible Hours

Who wants a strict 9-5 job? It’s wonderful waking up and starting your day on your own schedule. Time to read the paper, get the kids to school, exercise all before you begin work. You have the flexibility to switch gears when you like. If you can only get a mid day doctor or hair appointment, that’s just fine with a home based business. It provides the flexibility to make it to your childrens’ school events, stay home with a sick child, or work late after the kids are in bed.

Benefit #4: More Family Time

One of the most fulfilling benefits of working from home and having a home based business is the ability to gain control over your life. Parents who work from home report a much higher level of family time and a much lower level of stress. If you chose to quit at 3:00 when the kids come home and work at night after they are in bed, that is now a choice of your own accord. Home based businesses allow for balance and the freedom to take the day off to golf or spend it with your kids without having to check in with someone.

Benefit #5: More Profitability

You will save money on rent, meals out, gas to commute, and the cost of work clothes. More importantly, instead of having a boss tell you when you have to work, when you can take vacation, when you’ll get a raise or a promotion, you make those decisions yourself. Your advancement and income is directly related to your own productivity. As a result, you’ll likely want to work harder and smarter since you reap the benefits directly.

Home based businesses are at the forefront of the biggest business movement right now. Technology is largely responsible for this shift in business. We each have the opportunity, if we chose to seize it, to work from home and have the freedom we all dream of.

I attended the University of Florida and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1997. After graduation, I attended law school at Chicago-Kent College of Law and graduated in the top of my class winning First Place the Moot Court and Trial Law Competitions. Five Ways to Kill Your Internet Home Based Business

It is shocking to see the huge percentage of people failing in an internet home based business.
Statistics reveal that up to 90% of home based businesses fail within the first year.

Is it the wrong business which results in failure or there is something wrong with the idea of earning money at home?

Many people take up a home based business because they want to escape from the traditional nine to five job. But when people fail in their home based business, it adds more bitterness and frustration. Why does this happen?

There are countless reasons which can cause failure in business. Here are five common mistakes:

1) Failure to take action – Many home based business owners fail in their businesses because they simply do not take action. Planning is an integral part of any business but implementation of plans determines the success of a business.

People spend a lot of time in making lists and planning business strategies and then after doing all this, they often fail to take the necessary steps of implementation which are of paramount importance. Planning without implementation will not take you anywhere towards success.

2) Low self-confidence – Self-belief is one of the pillars of business success. Do you have it in you? When you do not believe in your own capabilities, your business will never show any signs of growth. Faith can take your internet home based business in the right direction.

3) Failing to take it to the end – Strong determination backed by persistence will help you to succeed in your business. Many entrepreneurs are all charged up during the initial stages but their energy levels fade with time. Many quit just before the business starts working. As a result they join the majority of work at home failures. You must be Persistent.

4) Failure to do enough research – Lack of knowledge of your market scenario can often lead to failure in an internet home based business.

Collection of adequate information and development of your knowledge base is very important for starting any business. You need to understand the position of your competitors and many other factors which are responsible for the success of your business.

5) Failing to work – Home based businesses always sounds very interesting because people think that it is going to be easy and you can work anyway you want. This is where they go wrong and end up in the red. You need to put in more effort than in your regular job before you’ll see success in your business.

It is very critical to identify the mistakes and find the solutions in order to succeed. If you want to succeed with your internet home based business, you must learn from your mistakes and implement what you’ve learned.

Put a couple of little phrases up where you’ll read them every day. When the going gets tough – the tough get going. The other one… You can – if you think you can.
